Hey Jay Jay, I see we only have 110 members so far. Since this is a Gallagher family operation, why is not the official Rory Gallagher Facebook page, with 450K plus followers not being used to publicize this new forum? I think it could bring in many more members if used that way. Unlike all the Facebook Rory groups, who's posting are ephemeral, here we have a permanent place for topics and posts, which of course you know already. Just wondering if we can use that resource. Cheers

Good idea, Capo. The old forum had so many members. The new one seems a little slow at taking off.

I know something new is always a little harder to navigate...but I am really not liking the format of the new forum. For me, I would check in nearly every day and click on new messages - it would bring up any and all messages I had not seen.
So far, I cannot find a similar function.

Hello sidsidow, This is on a different platform than the old forum was. It functions a bit differently, and we're all getting used to it. The administrators do read the comments and definitely take them into consideration. There will be tweaks and adjustments as we all get used to this. The old format, as with most technology, was obsolete in many ways. I agree, Capo, the old forum had so many members and there are far fewer on this site. But I agree, putting too much faith in the various Rory Facebook groups is not a good idea, especially these days. There is a lot of talk among governmental entities about reigning FB in, and that further incentivizes Zuckerberg et al to be cavalier with content. Worst case scenario, content could be lost forever if FB were to be broken up or if they decide to radically change their rules or formats, or shut down accounts which they have done in the past. It's good that Rory's family is able to oversee this as a source for Rory's fans, friends, family. But, broadening membership would be ideal. Many members of the old forum are no longer with us in a very real and tangible sense, as the "old guard," the ones who saw Rory, who remember those old days, are fading away. And with the current state of the world, all the festivals, gatherings, tributes for Rory that take place around the world are definitely hamstrung by this pandemic. I hope next spring things will be closer to normal. Bear with us, it takes time, and I know that Shadowplay/JayJay, Leadbelly, and Signals have been, and will continue to be, working to make the forum what we all would like it to be, in honor of Rory. Any suggestions are welcome.

Cheers Hiya Capo just back early from the Rory Gallagher UK (3 day) Festival Nantwich. As Barry (Sinnerboy) Barnes said to us after their gig headlining last night. It's lost the Rory vibe it had previously. 'Cause of new organiser using different indoor disco / rave dark night club venues (on sunny holiday weekend) not really Rory Style is it .. Gotta get back to how it "Used To Be" asap to survive imho. Regarding recruiting, Daniel Gallagher who's in charge of the FB official RG page and the twitter RG official page told me he had put posts (announcements) on these RG social media pages prior to this New RG forum being launched. Plus I doubled up on my posts to about 10 or more Rory Gallagher pages on FB about this new forum. Didn't you notice first week the "Guests" numbers viewing this new forum were around the 600 mark. Now they are below 3 figures. So you can't do a lot more really accepting word of mouth like I do at the Rory Tribute Gigs and Festivals. Btw, DG to put it mildly is not a great fan of Facebook!

I agree with sidsidow about format of the new forum. While I take the point made in response. The LT forum's technology was outdated but format was much more user-friendly. I wonder, though, whether the lowish membership of the new forum is entirely due to its format. Some of what was on the old forum is probably no significant loss to posterity, IMHO. However, there was also valuable content contributed by members that is no longer available. (The árchive link on the new forum goes only to a welcome to the new forum.) This comment isn't meant to be in any way a criticism of the forum administrators. But perhaps it's worth considering whether some of the old forum's membership might be somewhat disheartened.

Hi Zanny and welcome to the new RG forum. I don't believe the low membership at the minute is due to the format and any disheartened Rory fans.. The Official RG Loose Talk forum had 1954 members and that took 10 years to build it's membership to that figure (with quite a few spammers added to that figure). The Official RG Meeting Place forum previous to that can you believe that ran for about 7 to 8 years only had about 300 members. Echoing Moonchild post."It Takes Time" Please give this RG Forum time with the admins and with your help and patience so that we can make it better and more user friendly. Plus fit for purpose so that it is more Tasteful asap. Jim (Leadbelly) is doing his best to add extra features such as a Like button ( Btw Jim can you add a "thumps up" emoji's please also) We are trying too make it much better and more user friendly for the future. Thank you for bearing with us and being so loyal to the most important person to this forum Rory Gallagher. I'm happy as I said to Daniel Gallagher how this Official Rory forum is going so far. Compared to the 2 previous forums that were going the way of .. Fleecebook..Brute Force & Ignorance abusive behaviour and "look at me" social media pages at times. Give Peace a Chance and Rock On for Rory Slainte Mhaith Jay Jay PS. Spreading the gospel of Rory Gallagher by word of mouth does work also. 2 Rory fans I met @ The RG UK Fest the weekend. I invited to join have done so already

I never really got into the habit of forums, but I'll try here. It is probably a better environment here. No fake t shirt scammers for start and some decent Rory talk👌
