I've wondered about that as well. And I wondered if Rory was the person who inscribed them there. Perhaps Donal would know?

I have a vague recollection of reading that it was Rory's own artwork and that it was inspired by Native American art. That was such a long, long, long time ago that I don't remember which rock magazine or music review where I read it. It's entirely possible what I read contained not a hint of truth. Back then a lot of misinformation was published. It was not always deliberate lies. Sometimes it was due to the chemically altered states of perception and reality of the writers. 😎 Nevertheless, the gullible teenager that I was back then believed the story.

That is possible assumption based on Rory's love for bolo ties at the later years of his life. He had worn quite few of them. I don't know if that "affair" started with the cowboy hat at Macroom, but apparently he had a thing for Indigenous People. Hopefully we will find out more in near future.

Wasn't that the guitar that was nearly destroyed by one of those luggage trams at an airport? I vaguely recall reading the story of one of Rory's favorite guitars being run over by careless airport employees running luggage across the tarmac, while Rory and the others with him looked on. The guitar was eventually repaired. But that would explain where that pickguard may have gone. If Donal or Daniel happen to look in on the thread, could you please give us the history of this guitar and its pickguard?
