I'm listening to it now, and loving it. I'm not sure what the 50th remix of the album has done, it sounds very similar to the original. Perhaps a slightly more crisp bass and slightly louder vocals? Nothing to complain about as it sounds great. The Wave Myself Goodbye Alt take 1 is stellar, longer than the album version and features a nice guitar/piano interplay coda that isn't on the final take. Many other alt takes are equal to the final versions, sometimes even more interesting, although mostly I'd say that Rory chose the best final versions. At the Bottom sees Rory trying the song three times with an acoustic, and switching to an electric for the last take. Evidently he wasn't happy since it wouldn't be released until 1975 with a different band & arrangement. These At the Bottom takes are great to have though; that song and Sinner Boy are both former Taste songs and in many ways I always felt that this album was basically the third Taste album. Just my opinion of course. The two BBC concerts are great, some songs are also on the Rory BBC album which I guess means it is no longer in print? Hopefully we'll get a big BBC box set one day. If there's anything I felt was unnecessary, it was probably the many takes of Hands Up, in particular take 5 which is aborted after about a minute. It's a great song, but 6 takes where 5 felt nearly identical was a bit overkill. Still I don't want to complain though since I am very happy with this box set. Big thanks to Rory's family and estate for this product! rorygallagher.com/rory-gallagher-50th-anniversary-edition/www.rockandbluesmuse.com/2021/09/01/review-rory-gallagher-50th-anniversary-edition/

I have not had time to listen to all but the first thing I did was listen to all the versions of "I Fall Apart", one of my favorite Rory songs. I have to say the Tangerine Session version's solo is exquisite, and gives the iconic version we have known all these years a run for its money overall, but I think the originals outro is better so I think Rory made the right choice, but its close. The Alternate Take 1 is fine but inferior to the other two. The BBC's Sounds Of The 70's live take, like all live versions of Rory's songs, is more dynamic and aggressive, and is great, but the subtlety of the iconic original wins out, IMHO. Now I have to dig into the rest. As always the Gallagher family reissues are the Gold Standard.

Hi Cal and Capo, Thanks for your feedback and impressions of the 50th Anniversry remix. It sounds wonderful. I Fall Apart is one of my favourite songs as well. The lyrics are so poignant. The Gallagher family have done an amazing job in restoring Rory's back catalogue and bringing Rory and his work to a new audience. I just received Taste at the Isle of Wight and am so grateful to have the remastered version with commentaries. There is a long conversation on YouTube after a screening between a reviewer from the Rolling Stone and Daniel Gallagher that is interesting to watch.

If I recall that Youtube conversation, that's David Fricke from Rolling Stone. In the old forum here I posted a comment to the effect that if Fricke loved Rory so much why did Rolling Stone give him such scant coverage all those years. Point in fact, they have yet to review the new boxset. Don't hold your breath. P.S. a belated congrats on Team Canada winning the football Gold Medal. I've been a big fan of Christine Sinclair for years.

I think it’s great. Good sound and I especially like the Tangerine studio takes. So fresh and vibrant. Boys are having a whale of a time

Yes, Team Canada and in particular Christine Sinclair are amazing. Besides being a brilliant player, Christine is such a gracious sportswoman. Glad to hear you are a fan!

I like all of the alternate takes. It's a chance to hear how Rory thinks and experiments with sound. I would not be unhappy if all of his studio albums came with a record of alternate versions.

Only played the first 2 disks so far, but loving it. I don't usually like alternative takes. But this has changed my opinion (though it is Rory). Really nice quality recordings. Though I've only heard the CDs. Can anyone comment on the quality of the vinyl pressings

Can anyone comment on the quality of the vinyl pressings Since music is somewhat compressed in digital recordings, the vinyl sounds more authentic, more like live sound in my opinion. The vinyl anniversary albums do not disappoint. Crystal clear. If I had one criticism to the vinyl set it would be that the album cover is just a tiny bit too big for a protective sleeve. 😃

Another trip to the record shop. I'm trying to stop buying online and support real shops
