This last weekend, my wife and I celebrated our 41st wedding anniversary staying at a friend’s condominium in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. While we are not skiers, there was no snow at this time. We just love to see the leaves on the trees turn their wonderful colors. Driving through Denver, I had the massive Deja vue of when as a youngster in Western Nebraska, my family would take day trips to Denver. I had seen Rory on Don Kirshner’s Rock Concert on television. I was struck by his tone, his voice and his hair!! That is when I started to part my hair in the middle. Never grew it as long, and in his days. Balding today, I wish I was some ware close!! Driving into the mountains, I remembered my parents stopping at a mall/shopping center called Villa Itallia. There was an indoor golfing course. We would play as kids while parents shopped. Once I was a bit older, I sought out a record shop on the lower level that looked like a small village. I found it!! Tattoo, my first, my favorite vinyl recording of Rory!! Soon after, I found Irish Tour ’74 which is a co-favorite!! Thanks Rory for the amazing memories!!! (my wife and kids still think I'm loony.....) BUT granddaughters hear and know Rory!!!!

That was a lovely story. When I first discovered Rory I ordered the 25th Anniversary issue from Hot Press. I then ordered Live at the Isle of Wight. I dont think I will ever see a more incendary performance. Rory was young, beautiful and on fire. He played with such brilliance. His drummer and bass player were amazing. It is such a sad story that they were so ripped off by their manager and that the band broke up. I just love Rory and miss him so much.

On the Boards. I still think that the solo on Railway and Gun is the most orgasmic solo ever played by any guitarist anywhere.

After seeing Taste for the first time at Newcastle City Hall in 1970, I went and bought On The Boards.

I was doing mock O levels and my mate said hey Tommy my brothers just bought an LP and the guitarist makes the guitar talk Bollocks I said but went to his house anyway He put On The Boards on Eat my Words and Rory sings on top of his guitaring and it sounds like he’s talking I said hells bells that’s brilliant Then he played What’s goin on and that was it Hooked at 16 Went out that weekend bought both Taste LPs And 52 years later I’m still Hooked Saw him a lot of times and he’s just been a big part of my life A great guitarist An even better person And a legacy that’s just increasing in followers and influenced guitarists every day The mercurial enigma That is William Rory Gallagher

Against the Grain. With that guitar front and center. Don Kirschner's Rock Concert. On the telly. Likewise, OP. "Hands Off." A simple diddy. I enjoy all aspects of Rory's music. Blues. Rock. He even gets a little jazzy. Electric. Acoustic. Slide. Yesterday I listened to "Public Enemy #1" and "Bought and Sold." Many Rory songs get regular play while I am driving.

I was at a Scout camp, one of the older Venture Scouts also there had a tape of Blueprint that was played a lot once a few of us heard it - on a small, mono 'piano key' type cassette player.
My milk and paper round money was only going in one direction for a while after that! Blueprint was therefore my 1st Rory LP, then Against the Grain ( that I got for Christmas that year) and the others soon followed.
This was in 1977( I have a mug from the same camp) and the first of c10 Rory gigs was a couple of years later in 1980, at Manchester Apollo when I was 14. Still got the ticket stub too.
Was lucky to meet Rory on the Defender tour, and get him to sign all his solo LP sleeves, and all the Taste sleeves, which took him a while as there were , by then, just over 20 in my collection (I had a few of the polydor complilations too) and he took the time to sign them all. I remember that it seemed he had a specific / preferred place for signing each one - some he signed on the rear, for example.
This was on the night he played the International 2 - a very rainy evening as I recall. He was as expected - very friendly, albeit quiet and not at all like his on stage persona a few minutes beforehand.
